

Whether he's checking the frame line on a lunar landscape or capturing the poignant memories of the World War ll heroes of Easy Company, director and producer Mark Cowen pushes the outer edges of documentary filmmaking. Having worked on over 300 documentaries, he's distinguished himself as a leader in behind-the-scenes film production. His boundless energy and talent have attracted directors Robert Zemeckis, Sydney Pollack, Ron Howard, Steven Spielberg, Jonathan Demme and Steven Soderbergh. He's produced and directed Network television specials for HBO, A&E, ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX - notably Sightings and Encounters (The FOX Network), and The Real Rosanne Show (ABC).
In 2002, Cowen directed and produced the stirring documentary about surviving World War ll heroes, We Stand Alone Together: The Men of Easy Company, with executive producers Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg. The film was nominated for an Emmy and selected as one of nine films for the Academy Awards "Short List" for Best Feature Documentary. Since then, the interviews from the film have become part of the permanent collection at the Library of Congress.
When Cowen joined forces with longtime collaborator and fellow documentarian Mark Herzog to form Herzog Cowen Entertainment, they combined their creativity and experience to launch a thriving DVD, entertainment marketing, documentary, television and web production company. Their projects have included A Beautiful Mind, Pearl Harbor, Men in Black, Austin Powers, Training Day, The Mummy, TheBourne Supremacy, Pirates of the Caribbean,Ocean's Eleven, and the one-hour behind-the-scenes Emmy-nominated special The Last Laugh, celebrating the hit CBS series Everybody Loves Raymond.
Recently, Cowen reunited with Tom Hanks and The Playtone Company as director, writer, and producer of an IMAX feature length documentary entitled Magnificent Desolation: Walking on the Moon 3D. Using both narrative and traditional documentary techniques, this big-screen 3D film is the first cinematic adventure ever to be set on the surface of the moon.
